In 2021, the Community Service Officer (CSO) program changed from one full-time position to multiple part-time positions. This change adapted the position to help criminal justice students, and those interested in law enforcement, to start learning the basics of law enforcement.
The goal of the Community Service Officer program is to help recruit and retain quality candidates to become officers for the West Fargo Police Department.
The Community Service Officers respond to calls for service, such as vehicle unlocks, animal calls, and parking complaints. The Community Service Officers also work directly with the Fleet Manager for vehicle maintenance and deliveries to other government agencies.

How to identify a CSO:
- CSOs will be wearing a navy blue shirt with a Community Service Officer patch (pictured below).
- CSOs drive either a small white cargo van or a black jeep with government plates.
- Both vehicles are properly marked with Community Service Officer decals.
